Why a Domestic Violence Bill Was Vetoed By Abbott

A domestic violence bill in the Texas Congress was vetoed by Governor Greg Abbott. The bill would have expanded the tracking a domestic violence offenders after they were released on bond and the bill would have been a boon to violence victims everywhere in the state of Texas.

But Governor Abbott had to veto the bill because at the last minute an amendment was tacked on that delayed fees and surcharges on companies in Texas that dispose of  radioactive waste ( Waste Control Specialists to be exact).

The bill was approved by both the Texas House and the Texas Senate but at the last moment, Representative Poncho Nevarez added the amendment. If it had been passed, the bill would have cost the state $4.2 million paid by Waste Control Specialists. Hard lobbying by WCS has been a theme in the last several years, with thousands of dollars going to Nevarez, Abbott, and Landgraf.

Opponents of WCS say that their attempt to include this sneaky amendment to this bill is only another clue that WCS cannot be trusted by the Texas population.
