Texas GOP Disapproves of Landgraf’s Nuclear Waste Solution

Craddick earlier in the session sent a letter to the Environmental Regulation Committee that stated the bill “muddies the waters between a tax cut for a specific vendor and the issue of high-level radioactive waste storage in Texas.” Taylor spoke in opposition of the bill before it was voted out of committee, 6-2.

On the official twitter account of the Texas GOP party, Republicans called Representative Brooks Landgraf’s HB 2692 a “Bad Bill”. This viewpoint is backed up by Representative Tom Craddick and Tommy Taylor of Fasken Oil and Ranch.

HB 2692 marketed by Waste Control Specialists to be statewide ban on high-level nuclear waste in the state of Texas. Actually though, the bill could not override any decidion made by the federal government. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has already been in the process of granting WCS and Orano’s joint venture, Interim Storage Partners, a license to store the nation’s greater than Class C waste. Currently, WCS houses low-level nuclear waste but by the end of 2021 hopes to profit off of America’s nuclear waste problem.

HB 2692 muddies the water between banning HLW and reducing fees that WCS must pay to the state of Texas.
