Poncho Nevarez Gets Busted
Police are investigating Poncho Nevarez after a baggie filled with cocaine was found in an envelope with his official letterhead on it. Nevarez is the elected official that tried to tack on an unrelated amendment to a domestic violence bill that halted the increase of fees for the nuclear dump site in West Texas.
Texas state Representative, Poncho Nevárez, left the Austin airport in September 2019 and dropped an envelope with his official stamp on it. The envelope contained cocaine. Nevarez issued an apology, a decision to not run for office in the next election, and police issued a warrant for his arrest.
Nevarez, who represented a large part of South Texas, was an opponent for easier gun access and immigration. He is responsible for tacking on an amendment to the Texas House bill that would have decreased surcharges and fees of Waste Control Specialists, the company seeking to store high-level nuclear waste in Andrews, Texas.
The bill would have benefitted domestic abuse victims, but Governor Abbott made the decision to veto the bill because of the sneaky amendment that would have benefitted Waste Control Specialists and harmed Texas taxpayers.
